Coaching of CAT is best from which institute and which state (city)?

Which state (city) ?
In the era of internet and technology you do not need to relocate to take coaching. You can study even from your home. All you need is a good internet connection at your end. A laptop will make it easier to learn as compared to cellphone so better if you can arrange one. And it’s great if you already have one. So your state (city) is the best for CAT preparation.
Which institute ?
Compare the online courses on the basis of following points. It will help you in making a good decision. You can add up more points if you have any in your mind.
  1. The Faculty: Find out who is the faculty and how does he/she teach. Check if his / her way of explanation suits you. Cracking CAT EXAM becomes easier if you have a friendly and experienced mentor to guide whenever you need any help.
  2. Doubt clarification: Check if there is any provision of doubt clarification. Because while preparing for an exam like CAT, you are going to have many doubts.
Also check for the mode of doubt clarification. Some online courses include live classes for doubt clarification. It becomes easier to understand the explanations in video format as compared to text format for DI/LR questions.
  3. Updated Content: Before enrolling for any online course, you need to check that the content should not be outdated. It should be updated as per the latest syllabus and pattern of the exam.
  4. Affordability: Check if the course is not overpriced. At the same time, the material should also be good. Compare the features as well as price for all the options available. I repeat, compare both course features and course price. Choose the best course at the best price.
  5. Quality of Content: Check out some demo videos, before signing up for a course. Check if the teaching style of the faculty in the video. Check the video quality as well.
  6. Past results: Past results are the mirror of any coaching institute. So that’s a must check!

Can I prepare for the CAT in three months?

All you need to do is maintain focus and discipline towards CAT preparation. You have only one target for next 3 months and that is CAT 2018. So most of your time should be spent in preparing for it.
CAT preparation requires 300–500 hours in total which you can put in next 3 months. Devote 7–9 hours everyday to CAT preparation and you will definitely score a decent percentile and will get a good MBA college.
In these months , self-disciple is going to play a very important role for you. Your thoughts. Your emotions. Your behaviors. And your habits. All of them must be kept in check. Set targets everyday in the morning and before going to bed, check if they are completed. Try and manage to complete the targets on time. It can be done by making a right strategy for preparation and following it religiously. Smart study is required to get a good percentile in CAT EXAM. Basically you need to put your efforts in the right direction.
Before starting the preparation, know about the exam. Also, know the CAT Syllabus & Weightage of each section.
  • CAT is a 180 minutes exam consisting 100 questions having maximum 300 marks.
  • It comprises 34 from Quantitative Ability (QA), 34 from Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), and 32 from Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR).
  • The question paper will consist of both multiple choice questions and numerical answer type questions.
Plan your preparation. Your plan should include syllabus completion, revision, and practice tests.
Build Basics. This is the most important part of preparation. If you will be good with the basics, you will be able to solve all types of questions based on that particular topic just with the help of basics and practice.
Practice. You have a limited time for preparation but still try to practice as much as you can. Take out the books from market or you may practice from study materials of leading coaching institutes like TIME, IMS, CL.
Mock tests for analysis. This is the part on which majority of toppers emphasize. The reason being for the same is that you come to know about your weak areas only after writing mocks. Once you know them don’t let them be your weakness anymore. Also writing mocks will make you less nervous in the exams. So write at least two mocks every week after completing 75% syllabus. And write a mock every alternate after completing the syllabus.
Learn from your mistakes in mocks. You’ll observe many silly and major mistakes after writing mocks and you can’t afford to repeat in the main exam. So it’s better to learn from them and move on. I would recommend you to make the notes of your mistakes so that you don’t make the same mistakes again after reading those notes twice or thrice.

What is the right time to start preparing for the CAT for a BBA student?

Start the preparation in pre-final year of BBA. 8–10 months of preparation is good enough for CAT. Till then, your main focus should be on scoring well in college exams. Scoring top grades in these exams is as important as scoring well in CAT EXAM for getting into a top B-school.
There are some parameters considered by top B-schools. CAT score is also one of them. Other parameters are:
  • Your class 10th score
  • Your class 12th score
  • Your score in graduation
  • Your stream in graduation
  • Work experience
  • Gender
Out of the parameters mentioned above, only two are under your control at this stage:
  1. Score in graduation
  2. CAT score
Since you have decided  to go for CAT Coaching, it is good to take some small steps towards the preparation. You can work upon building skills. It is also a part of CAT preparation and will help you a lot in future. Start reading books / magazines / newspaper editorials. Devote at least 1 hour everyday to reading. It will boost up your vocabulary and will enhance the knowledge of grammar. Here is the list of recommended books: Recommended Books and Novels List that every MBA / CAT Aspirant Should Read. Which novel or newspaper or anything is good for the preparation of the CAT? How do I solve the verbal question?

Reading will help in the expansion of vocabulary. Experts in language and literacy believe that a person needs to read a word or phrase 15–20 times in different contexts to learn it. It also improves memory and makes the analytical thinking skills stronger. It all will help you a lot in CAT EXAM
Spend at least one hour everyday on reading books / magazines / editorials. Recommended books are: Recommended Books and Novels List that every MBA / CAT Aspirant Should Read. The recommended newspaper for the editorials is THE HINDU.
While reading you will come up with many new words. Don’t just know the meaning and let them go. This way you will not remember them even after few hours. For expansion of vocabulary you need to learn these new words. For this, note them down and go through regularly until they become a part of your vocab. Solve puzzles like crossword. Puzzles are really very good for metal health.
Watch Hollywood movies:
Start watching Hollywood movies with subtitles to improve your vocabulary. It will also give you a better understanding of different accents and dialects.
Listen to English Songs:
Listening to English songs will also help you in improving English. You can download an app for lyrics like Musixmatch from the play store / app store. Whenever you play a song, this app will show you the lyrics of that particular song. It will be a bit hard for you to listen these songs in the beginning but with the help of this app and with time you will start enjoying.

How do I prepare for the CAT 2018 within 3 months?

It is the high time for CAT as the exam is almost 3 months away. Every single day of these 3 months should be productive. You have to do a lot in these 3 months (Syllabus completion, practice, revision and test series).
To get a good percentile in CAT Coaching smart strategy for hard work is required. Before starting the preparation strategize it. Go through the interviews of toppers. They share their preparation strategy in these interviews. These strategies can be very helpful in your preparation because toppers know the right path to reach the goal. They put their efforts in the right direction and so they became toppers.
Before you start the preparation, know about the exam. Also, know the Syllabus & Weightage of each section.
CAT preparation is broadly divided in 4 parts:
Syllabus Completion:
In these 3 months nothing can help you more than an online course. It will help you in completing the syllabus at a faster speed so that you get more time for revision and tests. So join an online course as soon as possible. Start from any topic of your choice and just keep going. You need to finish 75% syllabus by mid September and then start writing mocks along with the remaining 25% syllabus.
Practice:
Practice at least 20–30 questions based on each topic. Here is a list of recommended books: Recommended and Best Books for CAT Exam Preparation. Practice previous years questions. If you can’t solve much questions from books, make sure that at least you cover the previous years questions.
Test series:
Solve the tests series religiously. Start solving the full length mock in the given time frame after completing 75% syllabus.
Analyze the tests: You are not writing tests to know your marks / rank or to celebrate your preparation. But you are doing this to know about the areas where you need to work more or the areas which needs improvement. After completing the test, check the wrongly attempted questions and find out what was wrong. Then go on unattempted questions. If these questions are from the topics which you have not studied yet then no problem. But if you could not attempt the questions from the already learnt topics, then understand the approach of those questions. Also make notes of your mistakes so that you do not repeat them again.
Revision:
Revise at least 3 times before the exam. It will help you in being confident while attending the exam. Also, we have a tendency to forget things if we do not revise them. So revision is a must.

Is it possible to clear the CAT exam with average knowledge in maths?

YES. It is possible. What I understand by “average knowledge in maths” is that you remember some concepts and not all from 10the level maths. It is completely fine. The syllabus of CAT includes 10th level maths only. If you do not remember it, you can learn now. My answer: Nidhi Sharma's answer to Can a person who hates math and doesn’t know anything about it qualify for the CAT entrance? should help you in doing this.
CAT EXAM preparation is divided in following steps:
Build the Basics: Basics are very important of preparation. As you are average in maths, you will need to start from the basics again and then go through the advanced level concepts. You can do it with the help of online courses. These are affordable, time-saving and helpful. You can check the online CAT course from Handa Ka Funda here: Handa Ka Funda - Online CAT Coaching.
Practice: Get a book from market and start practicing questions from it after going through the concepts for any topic. Try out previous years questions as well. Here is a list of recommended books for practice: Recommended and Best Books for CAT Exam Preparation.
Analysis through test series: Analysis of your performance is very important to understand your weak and strong areas. After completing around 75% syllabus start writing mock tests.
You’ll observe after writing mocks that you have made many silly and major mistakes to which you can’t afford repeating in the main exam. So it’s better to learn from them and move on. Making notes of your mistakes will be helpful.
Revision: Make sure that you revise the concepts at least three times before appearing in the exams. Revision is the only way to remember things. While revising, read everything as if you are reading for the first time with full concentration. You can make short notes for revision at the last moment.
Hope this helps. Good luck !!

Can one crack the CAT exam if one starts preparing 4 months before the exam?

In the time of 4 months you can not only crack CAT but can also secure a decent percentile. For that you need to plan things rationally and then follow those plans.
One needs to study for 300–500 hours in total so you have to study for 5–6 hours daily from now onwards. It is good to have a preparation strategy to keep your preparation on right track. You can derive your personal strategy after listening toppers’ words or you can take my inputs:
1. Understand the syllabus: To ace in an exam, we need to understand its syllabus as the first step towards preparation. This is the basic rule to crack any exam. The syllabus of CAT is divided in three sections and they are:
  • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
  • Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
  • Data interpretation and Logical reasoning
2.Build Basics: No one can construct a strong building without building a strong base. So, after understanding the syllabus you need to work upon your basics. And when you have only four months to prepare for CAT, online course is the best option. Have a look at online course for CAT EXAM 2018 by Handa Ka Funda here: Online CAT Coaching Course for CAT 2018 Exam Preparation.
3.Practice: We know that practice makes a man perfect. Keep practicing your knowledge to make it long lasting. The more you will practice the more confidence you will gain. For this practice a good number of questions including previous years’ questions.
4.Mock tests: Give mock tests to learn the art of finishing paper on time. And at the same time mock tests would help you to know your weak areas, now you need to work upon these areas to convert them into your strong areas. While writing mocks, you will observer that you have made many silly / major mistakes. Your next task is to eliminate those mistakes to score a good percentile.
5.Revise: Keep revising what you have read and learnt. Our brain has a tendency to forget things in some time. To remember things for a longer period of time, we need to keep on revising them from time to time.
